Confluent Software Engineer interview with a four-round virtual onsite

A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn, and the process started with a coding conversation with a senior engineer. That round went really well. I finished confidently, and the interviewer seemed genuinely impressed.

What followed felt chaotic and stressful. I was moved into a virtual onsite almost immediately. It covered four rounds over two days, including coding, a hiring manager discussion, and a networking-style deep dive. A new recruiter joined the thread and kept emphasizing how urgently they were hiring, including pushing me to book and accelerate the scheduling. As the timeline was rearranged, one interview was moved close to an on-call schedule, which stretched the final portion to about three days.

During one coding round, the interviewer seemed to be relying on someone else in the room. They delayed clarifying the problem details and inputs, then refocused after I prompted them. I spent much of the time trying to get the question understood before I could meaningfully work through the solution.

The later coding round involved a hard LeetCode-style problem with two senior staffers. I solved part of it and produced a solid partial solution, and that conversation felt much stronger. The hiring manager round focused on my work style and culture fit. The final networking deep dive went extremely well, and the interviewer signaled strong enthusiasm.

Despite all that, I didn’t receive an offer. The technical conversations varied in quality, and the process felt unprofessional enough to leave a sour taste, even though I performed well.

Location: Boston, MA. Overall feedback: Negative. Offer status: No offer.
