eBay Machine Learning Engineer Interview Experience — ML Breadth, Two Coding Problems, Hiring Manager and Director Rounds

There were four rounds in total:

ML breadth: the standard textbook questions. Bias/variance tradeoff, normalization, transformer architecture, attention, KV cache.

Coding: two problems in total. The first was matrix multiplication. The second one I had never seen on LeetCode:

Given n unit blocks, count how many different staircases can be formed such that each step has a strictly increasing positive height and all n blocks are used. A staircase with just one step of height n also counts.

Hiring manager round: behavioral question, most challenging project.

Director round: behavioral questions, resume deep dive.
