After the recruiter stage, I had a technical interview of about ninety minutes that went deeply into Spring and distributed systems. I discussed Spring Data JPA, Kafka, Java 8 functional interfaces and Spring Boot. For microservices, I explained the architecture, how services communicate and how security works.
JWT questions went into detail: what a token is, how a service validates it, what happens if roles change after issuance and how to retrieve the current logged-in user in Spring Security. We also covered filters versus interceptors, securing service-to-service communication and distributed logging. I explained trace and correlation IDs, adding them to logs and how MDC behaves across multiple threads. Connecting all those details was the hard part.
In a different round path, I faced Python internals: memory management and garbage collection, built-ins, decorators, concurrency and performance reasoning with big-O. There were also RAG and LLM pipeline questions, medium LeetCode-style DSA and topics including supervised versus unsupervised learning, arrays and strings, trees, graphs and dynamic programming. The fundamentals standard felt high.
I didn't receive an offer. It was intense and technical throughout. I felt they were assessing whether I could maintain precision across many areas, rather than demonstrate knowledge of just one.
Location: Kuala Lumpur. Overall feedback: positive. Offer status: no offer.
