It's been a while, so I'm sharing my full Google loop. I have 2 years of experience, applied to countless places, and got reached out to. After I finished the personality test, a recruiter moved me over to a US-based recruiter and the interviews started.
R1
Coding:
Classic Dijkstra, but with a twist. The original shortest path is the sum of edge weights, but here the question was the minimum product of edge weights.
BQ:
Classic BQ. One of the harder ones I remember: what would you do if you're halfway through a project and find out another team already built it?
R2: Bay Area onsite
Coding 1:
A meeting-rooms variant.
Input: an array of CPU scheduled start times, for example
{1, 4, 6}
plus the CPU execution time (how long each task takes) and the maximum number of CPUs (max parallelism). Find the time at which the last task finishes.
Coding 2:
A very simple OOD question: design a lowest-ask auction system, implemented with a heap. I needed to implement the bid and ask interfaces.
Follow-up 1: if the prices fall in a range, how do you optimize the complexity? (counting sort)
Follow-up 2: the system supports removing an auction, how would you do that? (the simplest way is to just add a set to check)
After the interviews I was told it was going to HC. A few weeks later the result came back: HC down-leveled me to L3, with no chance to appeal. If I want to continue, I can only start L3 matching.
I probably won't go. L3 matching seems really hard right now, and I can't get a PERM started either.
Huge thanks to the interviewer I got in the onsite, who was super friendly. Even when I got nervous and stuck, they patiently guided me and helped me show my signal. Wishing them a promotion, a raise, and all the best. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
