Most of my evaluation involved live problem solving. After recruiter contact and scheduling, I coded in the first round while explaining my thinking. I needed to give an answer, justify the approach and show how I'd improve it.
The system-design round caught me a little off guard. The hiring manager wanted specific details, including a cloud-oriented design question, even though the role description hadn't mentioned cloud expectations. It felt like a jump from implementation to broader engineering reasoning.
The overall difficulty was manageable, but I hadn't been given much guidance on what each round would cover. I still felt good about my performance, especially where I could show live problem solving and iteration. The structure suited how I worked, even if the transitions between rounds weren't predictable.
