HubSpot Backend Engineer: CodeSignal, systems design, and project deep dive

I went through a fairly classic HubSpot SWE process that started with an online assessment. Mine was a CodeSignal-style test. I also saw that there was an option to skip the OA if I had a recent score from another company. Either way, the early technical assessment was the first filter. After that, I had a short recruiter chat and then a longer technical sequence.

The technical portion was split between coding and systems design: one hour in a LeetCode-style format and one hour on systems design. After I passed the initial recruiter stage, I also had a later technical discussion based on a project I'd worked on during the previous couple of years, which made it feel less generic. After that deep dive, I had a final behavioral round.

I received positive feedback after a few days and ultimately got an offer after the last interview. I declined because I already had better offers, but the tone of the process felt encouraging by the end, especially compared with how tightly the early assessments set the pace.

Location: Canada. Overall feedback: Positive. Offer status: Got offer.
