I began with a quick recruiter pre-screen that took under 15 minutes. It covered my past experience, what I wanted next, behavioral and situational questions, and logistics such as relocation. They said an in-person meeting could depend on where I lived, but my next step stayed virtual.
The virtual interview was relaxed and light on technical depth. I explained my resume, how my work connected to the role, why I wanted Kiewit, and why I was leaving my current situation. Fit came up repeatedly, especially whether I was open to relocation, long hours, and the company's safety culture. The conversations were casual, but they also gave me a picture of the job and process.
I spoke with a recruiter and at least one engineering-side interviewer. The process moved smoothly, and the main challenge was telling a clear, consistent story about my interests. It ended without an offer. I came away feeling they cared more about compatibility than technical depth.
