Nextdoor Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience — Coding and System Design, Then Ghosted

Senior SWE. They scheduled two rounds right away.

Coding:
It wasn't from the question bank. They asked a file system problem where you have to parse the input and then design nodes to store it, with parent/child relationships. You also have to handle the case where the input comes in as a stream of data, so you create the child first and then map it back to the parent.
They give you a sample input, but you have to integrate it yourself (call the solution class you wrote) and run the test cases.
Overall it wasn't hard. The main thing is to clarify what the constraints on the input actually are, and how to handle edge cases (for example, reading the child before the parent).

SD:
Design the Nextdoor newsfeed, a classic on this forum.
The interviewer cared about the data consistency tradeoffs, and about how to use caching for feed pagination if the ranking layer is a black box.

I fully finished writing and talking through both rounds. The interviewer was gentle and encouraging, but I got ghosted right after the interview. I was only using them for practice anyway, so no big loss I guess.
