I asked a friend to refer me to a lot of NVIDIA positions. This was the first one to respond, and I really felt how slow the process is. After the phone screen it took two weeks just to schedule the next interview.
The interviewer was a bit of a nerd. The topic was GPU partitioning, in C++. Given an array and P partitions, do a hash partition, and the output has to return the offsets. It is the classic way of doing partitioning on a GPU. I had prepared for it beforehand, but I still wasn't very familiar with it. You scan once to build the histogram, scan again to determine the offsets, and then scan one more time to get the offset for each partition. After that he asked a lot of GPU-related optimization questions. I don't remember most of them clearly anymore.
After the interview I felt it went so-so. I stumbled through and answered everything, but since I have no GPU-related experience, I wasn't hopeful.
Two weeks later they gave me the next round.
I just got laid off.
