I began with a short recruiter call that felt like a fit and motivation check rather than a technical grilling. I discussed my background and past work, and I got the sense they wanted to know whether I cared about the mission and the real-world impact of the software, not just the title.
About a week later, I had a technical screen with a small set of coding questions: a couple of LeetCode-style mediums and a REST API task. I then had a longer technical interview that focused on how I reasoned through problems and communicated my approach.
The next step was a virtual onsite centered on learning and decomposition. I expected normal coding, but much of it was taking a vague prompt, breaking down what the system needed, and explaining how I would proceed when details were missing. I finished with a hiring-manager conversation. The process was structured and fairly intense, and I did not receive an offer. I left understanding what they valued and where I needed to improve.
Location: Washington, DC. Overall feedback: positive. Offer status: no offer.
