I applied online among lots of other applications, and HR reached out afterward.
The overall process was HR screen → technical → HM. I failed at the HM round and didn't make it to the onsite.
The HR phone screen was fairly standard, mainly asking:
Self-introduction.
Why are you leaving?
Why Roblox?
What are you looking for in your next role?
The technical interview lasted an hour and mainly covered Python, SQL, and product sense.
Python involved using pandas for simple A/B-test inference. I was given a metric table and a cohort table and needed to calculate the treatment effect / difference in means, then the confidence interval and p-value. I could directly call packages such as scipy rather than derive the formulas myself. Overall, it wasn't difficult.
SQL was also fairly simple, a window-function question along the lines of finding the top three in each group. They asked which ranking function to use with and without ties, such as the differences between row_number, rank, and dense_rank.
The product-sense question was: If Roblox were about to launch a new chat system, how would you measure success? We mainly discussed:
Which metrics to look at.
How to choose the primary metric and guardrail metrics.
How to design the experiment.
How to determine whether the launch succeeded.
The HM round mainly covered past projects, followed by some product analytics / root-cause analysis questions.
One was: If almost nobody uses a newly launched feature, how would you analyze it? I needed to locate the cause through the funnel, exposure, entry points, user understanding, product friction, targeting, and so on.
In the end, I didn't pass the HM round, so I never reached the onsite.
