Slalom Consultant interview: respectful salary mismatch

After the recruiter contact, I had a technical and consulting-oriented screen about my prior work, difficulties I had faced, and how I handled them. The questions were standard for consulting, but the recruiter clearly connected them to the role's technical side and to how candidates fit different pay bands.

The process respected my time. After the technical conversation, it became clear that the salary I expected did not match what they had budgeted for the level. They explained the mismatch and did not drag the process out. The technical discussion itself was friendly and open-ended around core concepts in their stack.

I came away feeling the team was thoughtful and organized about fit rather than merely checking boxes.

Location: Canada. Overall feedback: neutral. Offer status: no offer.
