After I applied, the recruiter contacted me quickly and sounded genuinely excited, almost surprised that no one had hired me already. We covered my MSP background and my mail-migration work, including how I ran projects from kickoff through implementation and the post-implementation survey. A week later I followed up because nothing had arrived, and soon after that a panel interview was scheduled.
The recruiter wanted to speak with me both before and after the interview. I was a little suspicious at first because I had been doing this for years and was not used to that much coaching-style attention. The call before the interview went well. When the panel began, though, it was not with the hiring manager I had been told was sick.
The interview felt impersonal and off-putting. Two of the three interviewers had their cameras off, and the only person with a camera on was expressionless before turning it off too. The conversation became a trivia-style stump-the-chump exercise, with questions that felt like quick lookups rather than a discussion of the migration projects I had led. I never got a real chance to explain the work they were supposed to be evaluating. It was one of the most unpleasant interviews I have had.
