The interview felt like a full Amazon-style loop, with several layers of depth in each technical conversation. I began with LeetCode-style coding: two DSA problems, one medium and one hard. For both, I needed an optimal solution, an explanation of my reasoning, time and space complexity analysis, and edge-case handling. The interviewer kept asking about alternative approaches and trade-offs.
Then I had high-level and low-level design. The HLD scenario resembled a real Amazon service and covered API design, data modeling, database and caching decisions, load balancing, fault tolerance, consistency under high traffic, and how the architecture could change as the system grew. In LLD, I designed an object-oriented system from scratch with classes, relationships, design patterns, maintainability, and SOLID-style reasoning.
The final bar-raiser-type discussion used Amazon Leadership Principles and detailed STAR examples from my projects: ownership, ambiguity, delivering results, learning from failure, and difficult technical decisions. I did not get an offer. The experience showed me that coding alone was not enough; deeper design and leadership judgment determined whether I met their expectations.
