Regression and Matrix Questions

The author’s Voleon phone-screen report combines mathematical reasoning, statistical modeling, and a short programming task. Matrix questions concerned the implications of unit row and column totals, including whether nilpotence was possible. The regression discussion examined bounds on the coefficient of determination and what could happen when two predictors were used together. Further question…

Navigation Constraints and Mapping Systems

The author lists a Waymo phone screen followed by onsite system-design and coding interviews. The screen involved a robot moving in four directions, returning to its starting point, and avoiding obstacles. The design discussion asked about a vehicle fleet collecting map information. One onsite coding task matched dictionary words against input containing repeated letters. Another used a map with…

A Long Python OA and Live Data Exercise

After I spoke with the recruiter, I received a fairly long online assessment. It had multiple-choice questions about the language used for the role, which in this case was Python, along with syntax questions. It also had two longer CoderPad questions. The first involved data manipulation. The second was a very long debugging problem with multiple steps. Retakes were allowed, so I could contact th…

Two System Designs, a Tech Talk and a VP Leadership Round

I went through the Engineering Manager loop at Rubrik across March and April. It was a demanding loop, yet among the better organized and more responsive ones I have done, and the people on the other side clearly put thought into how they ran it. A bit of context: I had spent three years leading engineering teams that built search infrastructure and distributed systems. Rubrik appealed to me sinc…

Passed VO1 With a Billboard Rotation Coding Round and an ML Job Scheduler System Design

Netflix's VO (virtual onsite) has two rounds — VO1 and VO2. VO1 is more general. VO2 leans into stuff related to the specific team you're interviewing with. I'll share VO1 here. Coding: movie billboard rotation. Don't use a heap — use two treemaps. Two followups total: 1) multi-threading, 2) how you'd scale it in production and how you'd store/access the data. SD: schedule ML jobs. The main point…

SDE II Loop with a Job Scheduler Design

I want to share my Robinhood SDE II interview experience. Distracted Interviewer Nitpicks a Binary Search

First off, the interviewer was 30 minutes late. The scheduled time was already inconvenient, and then he pulls this on top of it. He started by going over my resume, and we talked for over half an hour. The interviewer was obviously distracted the whole time, kept asking me to re-explain things I had already explained, and wasted a lot of time going back and forth like that. Then out of nowhere h…

SDE I New Grad Loop in Canada, Offer the Monday After the Final Interview

Hey everyone! I recently graduated with a CS degree from a school in Canada (I'm an international student) and ended up with an SDE I offer from Amazon. Here is how the process went, hopefully it's useful to somebody. Timeline My application went in during the last days of January 2026. Nobody referred me. In early April the online coding assessment arrived in my inbox, and I sent it back after t…

What are interview experiences?

An interview experience is a candidate's own account of a hiring loop — not a question bank entry. It tells you the shape of the process: how many rounds there were, what each round actually tested, how long the gaps between them ran, and what the recruiter said at the end. That context is the part a question list cannot give you.

How to read them

Weight recent write-ups more heavily — interview loops change, often within a year. Read several for the same company and role rather than one: a single account tells you what one interviewer asked, while five tell you what the bar is. Note the outcome badge too, since a rejection write-up usually explains the gap far more precisely than an offer one.

Share your own

Every published experience earns 50 XP, and each of the first 3 likes it receives in a day earns you 10 XP more. Likes must come from established accounts; like-for-like swaps and likes from your own second account are not paid. Write it while the details are fresh — the round order, the exact prompts, and how much time you were given are what the next reader needs.
