Alten Software Engineer interview experience: technical C++ exercise and role-fit doubts

My Alten process was fairly structured. It started with an introductory call, then a get-to-know-you interview, followed by a technical stage intended to test my skills. The early conversations were about me and my experience, including university, internships, my thesis, and what genuinely interested me.

The technical stage was more concrete. I was asked technical questions and given situations to show how I would react at work. In one interview, I worked on a logic problem inside a C++ codebase. They also wanted to see how I would handle particular scenarios, including my behavior as well as my reasoning.

The experience was not consistent throughout. At times I noticed imprecision and a weak match between the expected level and the candidate they were interviewing. The technical part was more serious, but I never felt the evaluation was fully aligned with the role. I did not get to an offer, and I was left wondering whether the process was properly calibrated.

Location: Turin. Overall feedback: positive. Offer status: no offer.
