I'm based in Vancouver, Canada, and wanted to share my AMD interview experience from back then.
I moved to AMD in 2022 from another chip company. The Vancouver site didn't have an office yet at the time, so the whole process was video interviews. There were 3 rounds in total, 2 of them technical, each about 1 hour. Overall it was mostly Verification plus the PCIe protocol.
On the Verification side they mainly asked about:
- SystemVerilog / UVM basics
- verification methodology
- how to set up a testbench
- scoreboard / monitor / coverage
- RTL basics
- the projects on my resume, in a fair amount of detail, so make sure you know everything you've done really well
In one of the rounds I was interviewed by my (future) manager, who is in Toronto and is in charge of PCIe Verification. This round went pretty deep on PCIe. For example:
- what PCIe TS1 / TS2 are for
- LTSSM / Link Training
- PCIe ordering
- Posted / Non-Posted / Completion
- TLP / Transaction
- when different transactions are allowed to reorder
Overall, my feeling is that AMD's Verification interviews care a lot about whether you have really done verification work, and whether you can explain your own projects clearly. If your resume says PCIe/UVM, they will pretty much always dig deep into it.
