Apple Data Scientist Interview Experience — a Quick HR Call Just to Schedule the Minicase

Simply put, it was very simple — basically no difficulty at all. We scheduled about an hour, but they actually only asked me three questions:

  • What's your current status?
  • What's your highest degree?
  • When can you schedule the minicase?

As long as you answer honestly there's no problem. In the middle, I also asked two questions.

My highest degree is a master's, but I couldn't find my undergrad school in their system, so I put my undergrad major under the master's field instead. Just noting that here.

I had applied to a bunch of positions at the same time — manager, senior manager, senior BA — but this recruiter was the first one to reach out. If I fail this screen, does that mean my other applications are done for too?

Answer: They said since all of these roles are in the same job family, it makes no difference — you just interview normally, and afterward they'll tell you the specific role based on how you did. So if you interview well, it might end up being senior manager, but if you don't do well, it might end up being senior engineer instead. So my guess is that behind this there's probably some kind of scoring system, where each question has a specific point value.

So honestly, this wasn't really a screen so much as a call just to get you scheduled for the actual interview. Minicase is coming up this month.
