Screening: I had to hand-write a consistent hashing ring from scratch; then K8s questions, like where do you start when a pod has a problem; and finding a bug in some Terraform. The result came back on the spot, and half an hour later the recruiter replied to schedule the phone screen. All I can say is, fast.
Phone screen: they gave me skeleton code for a union find and I had to fill it in. Then I had to use my hand-written union find to solve LeetCode 130 (so no regular DFS or BFS, which is how that problem is normally done). After that they asked a lot of random K8s questions, very fast and very scattered, and I don't remember most of them. What I remember best is one where a pod needs a token to access some external service, and they asked what to do. I said mount the token as a volume for the pod to use. The interviewer didn't say whether that was right or wrong and just moved on to the next question. They asked about ten of them.
After it ended the recruiter said I passed and they would arrange the final round. A week later they told me an Apple internal transfer had come in and they had to prioritize him, and that they would contact me again if he didn't pass. Then nothing happened after that. He probably passed, and that was the end of it for me.
