BAE Systems Software Engineer interview experience: timed games and video questions

The main assessment leaned heavily on games and video. I completed HireVue recordings with several recorded questions and additional written prompts. It felt difficult because it tested speed, pattern recognition, and mental math, not just recall.

One numeracy game gave me a starting number and a set of operations. I had to choose the pair of numbers that reached a target through addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. There was also a pattern-recognition task using images, where I picked one option from a pair of postcard-like pictures. In one version, the choices went on for a long series of timed pattern matches.

Afterward, I was invited to a base for another interview that lasted about an hour. I found the overall process challenging, but it seemed consistent about what it was measuring. I did not receive an offer, and I left thinking the aptitude tasks counted as much as my interview answers.

Location: Warton, Lancashire, North West England, England. Overall feedback: positive. Offer status: no offer.
