I applied in mid-September. I got an HR outreach in late November, and this week (early December) I had my interview — the first round was with the hiring manager.
They mainly asked experience-related questions:
- Why Cloudflare
- Do you have any experience using Cloudflare products?
- Introduce a recent project
- Technical details of the project
- Have you ever contributed to any production code?
- Have you ever done any code reviews?
- How do you resolve conflicts during code reviews?
- What is your methodology when debugging or when something goes wrong?
The interviewer was very nice — no matter how I answered, he gave positive feedback.
I hadn't prepared much for the Cloudflare-specific question, so I just briefly mentioned that a lot of websites use it, that their tech is strong, and that a CDN and DDoS mitigation provider like Cloudflare is only going to become more critical to internet infrastructure, blah blah.
I stumbled a bit when talking about my own project, but the engineering questions afterward went pretty smoothly, and the interviewer sounded like he genuinely liked the direction of my answers.
At the end, during Q&A, he said he'd help push me forward, and that same night HR moved me on to the next round, the technical one.
Adding the process the interviewer mentioned for what comes after this:
- Technical round (one hour of pair coding, focused on debugging and problem solving — might not be a traditional algorithm question. I heard from someone who's interviewed here before that it leans more toward design)
- Hiring manager (they discuss which team you're a fit for based on how the technical round went)
- Recruiter (offer round)
Things I think I could improve on: learn more about Cloudflare's products, get smoother at narrating my own project experience, and read more BQ prep.
