I went through a focused process centered on debugging. It began with a recruiter screen and then moved to a technical round where I had to debug an existing codebase. In the setup I saw, it was on the order of a few hundred lines and included multiple nested classes. The expectation was straightforward, step-by-step debugging: I worked through the code until the tests passed.
I made good progress during the session. I could reason through the structure and get most of the tests moving in the right direction. Even when I ran into a late snag, I felt that my thinking about the logic remained clear. The difficulty felt average overall, though the interviewer’s pace and style affected the experience. At times the discussion felt rushed, and I didn’t always have enough room to ask clarifying questions.
Even after making a solid attempt to fix the remaining issue, I was rejected after the debugging round. From my side, the technical problem itself was straightforward enough, but the experience was shaped by the way the interviewer conducted the round and how quickly the decision came.
