Delta Air Lines Software Engineer interview: dismissive manager led to withdrawal

The first conversation was uncomfortable from the start. The hiring manager felt condescending, told me to "slow down" while I explained my background, and when I asked for feedback, criticized only my attire as too casual even though he was dressed much more casually.

Very little of the discussion concerned technical skills or performance. He pointed to internal communications for the formality issue, but that group was laid back and casual when I met them. The second interview felt like a gotcha exercise, with specific questions about unexplained internal projects and systems, including how I would fix code in a template without seeing the code. The team seemed tense and tried to move toward culture questions to make me less intimidated.

I withdrew because the manager's behavior overshadowed the interesting role. I could not imagine working for someone who communicated that dismissively.

Location: Atlanta, GA. Overall feedback: negative. Offer status: no offer.
