I interviewed for a Software Engineer path that grew out of a need for someone very senior in trading support. The process moved at a moderate pace and focused heavily on experience fit.
I first spoke with an internal recruiter about my background and why I was interested, then moved to a hiring manager interview. That conversation focused mainly on my experience and learning about the team and role, although the manager seemed distracted and preoccupied.
I was initially not moved forward because they wanted someone extremely senior from a comparable trading firm. After the role reopened, I re-engaged and was scheduled for three interviews, where I did well.
There was no offer for the first opening, but I progressed well after the role reopened. The experience made me feel that persistence mattered when the hiring bar and the team’s needs changed.
Location: Chicago, IL. Overall feedback: Negative. Offer status: No offer.
