General Mills Software Engineer Interview Experience: intrusive recruiter questions

General Mills·Software Engineer·Reported Jun 2026

My first contact was a recruiter call that shifted in an unexpected direction. The recruiter asked intrusive personal questions, including what my spouse and parents do and how many children I have. The conversation then moved to my salary history.

What felt especially off was that it became an argument about that history without clear information about the engineering role or the salary range they had in mind. To me, the exchange felt uncomfortable and discriminatory. It did not seem connected to assessing my fit for the work.

Because the process went wrong so early, I did not make it past that stage and ended without an offer. The lasting impression was that it did not feel respectful or focused on the role from the start.

Location: Mumbai. Overall feedback: Negative. Offer status: No offer.
