I applied online, received a call to arrange an interview, and then went to the store to speak with a manager. I usually did not wait long after arriving. The manager explained the basic role before asking questions.
Most discussion concerned my previous experience and customer service. I was asked why I wanted the job, what I liked about the store, my availability, and how I would handle particular customer situations. The conversation stayed casual. I also had to explain how I would deal with difficult customers and, in some interviews, how I would support a colleague in a similar situation. In quicker versions, the call was short and mainly about availability and experience.
The pace varied, but the tone was consistently simple, friendly, and low stress. I felt they made it easy to understand what they wanted.
