Marks & Spencer Account Executive Interview: Shop-floor exercise and role play

I arrived early and was first sent to the shop floor to identify a few things that could be improved. Afterwards I went upstairs for a more formal interview. The setting felt welcoming, and the conversation moved quickly from who I was to what I could bring to the role.

They asked about my background, what I knew about the brand, customer service, teamwork, and how my previous experience related to the job. The situational prompts included helping a customer who could not find something and handling pressure in a busy store. I also did a role play, with repeated emphasis on going above and beyond and keeping high standards.

The process was lively and relaxed rather than interrogatory. At times several interviewers started together and the group narrowed later, but it remained conversational and role-relevant. I left feeling I had answered confidently and understood the expectations. I received a positive signal, though my bigger takeaway was that outcomes seemed to depend on more than the interview itself and later communication did not always match the friendly tone.

Location: Southampton, England. Overall feedback: Positive. Offer status: No offer.
