I went through a compact two-round process for a Senior Software Engineer role, and it ended in a rejection. The first step was an online assessment with two medium-level questions, and I had to use Java.
After that, I moved to a low-level design round. The language requirements were strict there too: Java for part of the interview and Java or Golang for another part. The main prompt involved designing a flight aggregation system. It forced me to think through the system’s structure and details instead of quickly implementing an algorithm. There were also two additional medium-level Java questions.
The process felt focused and fairly technical, with an emphasis on correctness and design thinking under language constraints. I didn’t get an offer, and it felt like I was being evaluated very specifically on how I handled low-level design depth, not just how quickly I solved problems.
