Nyc Staffing Software Engineer Interview Experience: a mobile role with mismatched screening

My recruiter screen was about a week after I applied and felt generic. They asked a couple of questions about my resume but gave little detail beyond the posting. I then shared availability for a hiring-manager round that was scheduled about two weeks away. What I heard about the hiring manager made me think I would be a strong fit.

A few days later, I was asked to arrange a technical screen. After I sent times, they said none worked and wanted me to use a slot that fit the interviewer instead. I agreed, but the mismatch was obvious. I thought the role involved managing a mobile development team, while the data-engineering interviewer did not seem familiar with mobile work. Their questions focused on data challenges and had no link to the mobile domain described earlier.

The behavioral round was also about a week away, so the process ran close to two months. By then, the interviewer seemed unprepared and asked vague questions about managing people without specific scenarios or targets. I did not receive an offer. My main takeaway was how disorganized everything became once scheduling and interviewer context slipped.

Location: United States. Overall feedback: Negative. Offer status: No offer.
