Software Engineer interview at Spacex: interview experience

Spacex·Software Engineer·Reported Jul 2026
Hard

I got far enough to face technically intense screens that seemed built to test end-to-end understanding. Even when a question was posed as a hypothetical, it did not feel like a formula-memory exercise. It felt as though they wanted hands-on reasoning and confidence with fundamentals across the chain.

The hardest part was a run of very pointed hypotheticals that seemed only loosely connected to my own experience. One asked me to estimate the ambient temperature of a fridge in a room. I could see it as a reasoning test, but its ambiguity made it hard to tell exactly what they were scoring, which was stressful in the moment.

I did not get an offer. Looking back, the challenge was not just technical content. It was staying steady, interpreting an open-ended prompt confidently, and producing reasoning that was mostly right without clear boundaries.

Location: Hawthorne, CA. Overall feedback: negative. Offer status: no offer.
