Southern California Edison Software Engineer interview: STAR panel and electrical concepts

I started with a talent-acquisition recruiter call. Because I matched the role requirements, I moved to a four-person panel interview. They took turns asking questions, so the conversation was structured but moved quickly as each interviewer joined in.

Most questions were behavioral and expected STAR-style answers. I was pressed about past experience and how I handled particular situations, with a couple of technical questions mixed in. I was asked what a shunt capacitor is and what it does, the purpose of a relay, and about power factor. It felt as though they wanted clear storytelling as well as solid electrical grounding.

The process took about two months from start to finish, and the decision or offer timing added a few more weeks. The behavioral portion stretched me most because it came in several parts and demanded organized answers. I did not receive an offer, though the feedback-driven pace made me feel they were evaluating how I think rather than only how fast I answer.

Location: Irwindale, CA. Overall feedback: positive. Offer status: no offer.
