ThoughtWorks Software Engineer interview: pair programming, logging and production incidents

The recruiter screen was supportive and gave me enough detail to understand what the interviewers would look for. Scheduling took some time. Once the interviews began, the process felt focused on technical reasoning and how I thought while working with someone else.

In pair programming, I had to explain my approach as I coded. We worked on clean code, problem-solving communication and design decisions, including how I organized the solution and why. Follow-up questions went well beyond syntax. I discussed what to log, logging levels and security considerations; investigating the root cause of a security problem; and what I'd do during a production failure, followed by a post-mortem.

The final conversation covered behavior and fit, especially feedback culture and stakeholders. I talked about leading or working with teams and projects. I didn't reach the later HR stage that some other candidates described. Even with the structured technical discussions, the process felt clear and personal.

Location: Singapore. Overall feedback: positive. Offer status: no offer.
