Stubhub Software Engineer interview: OOP, a project deep dive, and final presentation

I started with a short recruiter call covering background and fit. About a week later, I had a technical interview on OOP: building classes and implementing methods tied to them. The pace was manageable, and the questions were not overly tricky. The final stage had three back-to-back interviews. First was a 30-minute conversation with a software engineer on the team. Then I had a one-hour project…

Stubhub Software Engineer interview with repeated scheduling problems

The process started with scheduling, and it quickly became clear that it wasn't being handled with much care. The recruiter didn't show up for the originally scheduled interview at all. After I reached out to reschedule, I didn't get a real response. I joined the rescheduled call anyway, only for the recruiter to arrive late and act as if the situation was an inconvenience rather than something t…

HR Downgrades the Role, Then an OOD Recommendation Engine

Position: Fullstack Software Engineer II Experience: 7 years YOE Interview with HR: First I had a call with HR, who mostly talked up how small the company is, how big each engineer's scope is, and how they acquired Viagogo in Europe and are working hard to expand. Then they asked me to walk through a project I'd led before. I had originally applied for a Sr. SDE role — I have 7 years of experienc…

Rejected After Onsite With No Feedback

Coding round: Open discussion about how to improve the recommendation. System design Design an internal chat system for StubHub that also has the ability to send notification emails to customers who haven't logged in for 10 days. Result Two days later I got a notification from the recruiter that I'd failed both the coding and system design rounds. No detailed feedback. For the coding round, I fin…

Stubhub Software Engineer interview with a shortened project deep dive

I started with a recruiter screen that already felt off. There was a missed call, and after I reached back out, I waited about two weeks just to hear about moving to the next round. When I was scheduled for the hiring manager interview, the hiring manager I was connected with didn't match what the email said. The project deep dive also didn't match the schedule. It was supposed to last 45 minutes…

Stubhub Software Engineer: email-system design and an early coding cutoff

My process started with a friendly recruiter screen about my background and previous work. I could tell the recruiter was listening for specifics, and we went past the scheduled time because I kept adding context. A couple of weeks later, I still hadn’t heard back, and I eventually received an automated rejection. The technical rounds focused more on practical engineering ideas than on algorithms…

Stubhub Software Engineer interview: Codility, CodeSignal, and resume-based technical screen

The process moved quickly into online testing and stopped just as fast. I took a Codility-style assessment with a limited time window and submitted everything before time ran out, but I never heard back. At another stage, I completed a CodeSignal assessment with several LeetCode-style questions. The focus was on getting working solutions rather than writing the most elegant algorithms. I ran out…

Stubhub Software Engineer interview: six-year requirement for the senior SWE track

I reached out through LinkedIn and eventually connected with the company. The process started normally, but I soon learned that senior-level roles required six or more years of experience. I considered myself a senior engineer, but I didn’t meet the experience requirement for the senior SWE track. Because of that policy, I didn’t move forward and withdrew from the process. The hard cutoff felt ol…

Stubhub Software Engineer interview with a 75-minute pair programming round

My interview process started with an HR behavioral round, followed by a CodeSignal assessment and then a face-to-face technical sequence. The technical portion included a 75-minute pair programming round and a system design round. The process ended after the system design interview, and I was rejected at that final technical stage. It felt like a typical multi-round pipeline, but the rejection se…

Stubhub Software Engineer interview with no clear decision

I didn't get much information from StubHub during the interview loop. After I completed the process, they didn't seem to communicate a clear decision either way. About two weeks later, I received a survey asking me to rate the interview. The experience left me uneasy. The interview itself wasn't especially brutal, but the recruiting process didn't feel appropriate for the time and effort it requi…

Stubhub Software Engineer: 90-Minute CoderPad Interview Cut Short

My process felt rough and uncomfortable from the beginning. I was put straight into a coding exercise on CoderPad with little introduction, and the session became stressful quickly. It was supposed to run for 90 minutes, but the interviewer ended it after about 30 minutes, even though I believed I had solved the problem. The interview atmosphere made things harder. There was a lot of outside nois…

What are interview experiences?

An interview experience is a candidate's own account of a hiring loop — not a question bank entry. It tells you the shape of the process: how many rounds there were, what each round actually tested, how long the gaps between them ran, and what the recruiter said at the end. That context is the part a question list cannot give you.

How to read them

Weight recent write-ups more heavily — interview loops change, often within a year. Read several for the same company and role rather than one: a single account tells you what one interviewer asked, while five tell you what the bar is. Note the outcome badge too, since a rejection write-up usually explains the gap far more precisely than an offer one.

Share your own

Every published experience earns 50 XP, and each of the first 3 likes it receives in a day earns you 10 XP more. Likes must come from established accounts; like-for-like swaps and likes from your own second account are not paid. Write it while the details are fresh — the round order, the exact prompts, and how much time you were given are what the next reader needs.
