Epic New Grad Software Engineer Interview Experience — Epic Just Switched OA Question Banks, Old One Is Useless

Epic's official guide has been updated — first a phone call with a colleague introducing the role, then an online technical assessment. It's completely different from the old question bank. I'm a new grad currently job hunting, sharing this in good faith.

1. True/False/Cannot Determine — 5 min

Each question gives 4-5 facts, and you judge 5 statements as true, false, or cannot be determined. Roughly like this:

Facts:
Everyone who lives on the farm is related to X.
A is X's younger brother.
B lives on the farm.

Judge:
B is related to X.
A lives on the farm.
X lives on the farm.

I think I saw 6 questions total, not sure if there were more after that — the time was very tight.

2. Multiple choice — 45 min, 20 questions total

Question types included calculating numbers from a table, math word problems (with a scenario, harder than the old question bank, slightly longer stems), and reading comprehension. Time wasn't too tight for this section.

The reading comprehension questions came in two types. The first: based on the passage, judge whether a statement is definitely true, probably true but not necessarily, cannot be determined, probably false but not necessarily, or definitely false. The second: which of the following statements is best supported by the passage. The stems were about 3-5 lines, long and complex sentences, on topics like companies, government, the judiciary, etc. — completely beyond my vocabulary, and I was barely sure of any of them.

Questions I remember:

1. Juvenile offenses usually result in either a fine or a fine-waived release. In a fine-waived release, the court prohibits the child from seeking counseling. Fine-waived release usually happens on a child's first offense. John committed his first offense and was ordered by the court to seek counseling.
   Judge: John received a fine-waived release.

2. A company uses a tiered salary system, with a 10% raise at each tier. The salary of position X starts at $13,000 for the first tier. What is the salary at the fourth tier?

3. After government funds increase, current volunteers start being paid a wage. Paying volunteers may attract more volunteers in the future. Government funds have increased.
   Judge: There will be no volunteers at all next year.

4. If Company A acquires another small company, it may rename itself and temporarily lower prices. If prices are temporarily lowered, purchase volume may increase. Company A acquired the small company.
   Judge: Purchase volume increased.

5. A makes 72 units in 6 hours. B makes 108 units in the same time. Working together, how long does it take them to make 60 units?

6. The government sets the basic standard for a 4-person family at $420. X's 4-person family has a monthly income of $180. The first $30 and one-third of the remainder are used to calculate family countable income. The payment is a reduced standard of 75% of the basic standard minus the family countable income. How much will X's family receive when they apply for assistance?
   30 + 150 * 1/3 = 80, 420 * 0.75 - 80 = 235. The closest option was 225, so I picked "none of the above."

The only ones I remember are the easy ones, because I honestly couldn't understand the hard ones...

There were no coding questions — not sure if that's because I wasn't applying for an SDE role.

After spending dozens of hours grinding through the old question bank's coding problems, I feel like a clown.
