Rocket Lab Software Engineer interview: large take-home project

My process was fairly condensed and involved only a few steps. I had a screening call, followed by a take-home project and a technical interview with the team to discuss what I had submitted. The take-home wasn't a nightmare, but it was on the larger side for an interview assignment.

The technical discussion focused on clarifying the work and talking through what I had built. There wasn't much rapid-fire gotcha questioning. The panel was productive, and it seemed focused on how I would handle the kind of work the role involved.

The overall effort didn't feel outrageous, but the process still ended without an offer. My honest reflection is that the project's size made it more time-consuming than it looked from the outside, which likely affected how well I could present myself within the interview window.

Location: Auckland, Auckland. Overall feedback: Positive. Offer status: No offer.
