A Grocery Loyalty Case With a Database-Outage Twist

I finished my interview in the afternoon and got notified the next day that I'd passed. But my next round wasn't a PD round — it was another case interview instead. I don't know if any of the intern applicants here can confirm whether this is the standard process for everyone. For the mini case, the interviewer introduced themselves and then we got started. It was the grocery loyalty membership c…

The Energy One Mini Case and a Same-Day Power Day Callback

Mini case, midday on 3/18/2025. The question was one someone had already shared here before — the Energy One case. The interviewer gave a short self-introduction, then asked about my background — worth remembering to prep for that too, I was so focused on the mini case that I answered it pretty roughly. Then we got into the actual case. There's an energy company called Energy One that wants to tr…

Four Rounds, Lost Out to a Candidate with More Product Experience

There aren't many Disney/Hulu-related posts on this forum. A few months ago I interviewed for a Senior Data Analyst, Product role. I applied in early July this year. Their hiring process is four rounds. The recruiter scheduled my HR screen in the second week after I applied. It was mainly: 1) introduce myself, 2) why I wanted to switch jobs, 3) they walked through the interview process. Overall i…

Data Challenge, Power Day, Offer in 3 Days

Reading interview reports here helped me a lot, so I'm giving back with my own timeline and report. Got an HR call at the end of February, and scheduled an HM call for a week later. The hiring manager was great — she mostly shared her own experience and what the team does, then went through my resume in detail. After the HM call in early March, I got a Data Challenge. Very classic problem, overal…

L5 Loop with Five Onsite Rounds and a BQ-Heavy XFN

Let me start with the overall timeline. I interviewed for a level 5 position: one round of phone screen, five rounds of onsite, and two rounds of team matching. The whole process took about a month, and after that I waited 2-3 days for the offer. Here's the general picture of how it went. Overall the interview had some real difficulty to it. The technical part was SQL plus Python. The SQL was on…

Two Tech Screens, Screwed Over by My Own Round 2 Interviewer

Two rounds of tech screens at Uber — tl;dr, I got screwed over by one of my own. Sharing this for those who come after. Round 1: coding and case study. The coding part was simple Python scripts, nothing like an LC medium, I blew through it in 15 minutes. The case study asked about the various downstream effects of a change in rider ETA, and how I'd design an experiment for it — we went from suppl…

Four Rounds and a Hiring Freeze at the Finish Line

Giving back to the forum with a (relatively) fresh interview report for what feels like a cushy, stable place to ride out a career — Freddie Mac. The process dragged out for a while, four rounds total (not counting the HR call, otherwise it's five)... In the end, because Trump took office and FHFA got completely reshuffled, the whole thing got swept off the table and I got the pleasure of a hirin…

A Full-Day Power Day Onsite Ending in an Offer

I've read a lot of interview reports on the forums and gotten a lot out of them, so let me quickly share mine. The position I interviewed for was Quantitative Analyst. HR just asked about my visa status and then scheduled an HM phone interview. The HM interview was on Zoom. At first I thought there'd be some technical or resume questions, but it ended up being basically all BQ. A lot of it was ab…

An Hour-Long Life Story Screen and No Salary Range from HR

Shopify feels like a total outlier among interviews, honestly 😂 The life story portion alone took a full hour.... You definitely have to read the company brochure HR sends over ahead of time — they'll ask what you thought of it. You don't need to go super deep, but you do need to praise it a bit. I'd suggest dropping it into ChatGPT and having it summarized for you.... either way, you have to rea…

Five-Round Onsite Panel, Then a Lowball Offer Fell Through

Switching jobs this year wasn't easy either — all told I went through something like 7 rounds of interviews, and in the end the money didn't work out and the offer fell through, which was a shame. This has some things in common with a post I made before. I noticed there aren't really any Expedia interview experience posts here related to Data Science, so a while back I interviewed for an Expedia…

Rejected After a Tough BPS Round With AB Testing, an ML Case, and Coding

I have a master's degree and 1.5 YOE as a DS at a pretty chill, low-pressure company. Even though I got rejected, this was still one of the best interview experiences I've had. HR Screening They asked about my background on my resume, my visa/status situation, and my willingness to relocate. Then they asked why I was interested in the role, what tech stack I use day to day, etc. They also introdu…

Network Effects, IV Assumptions, and a String-Matching Question

Last month I interviewed for a senior DS role at Uber, so I'm sharing it here. There were two technical rounds, each an hour long. They covered past projects and some case studies. Overall the difficulty wasn't that high, but I kept feeling like we weren't quite on the same wavelength — I probably wasn't giving the answers they were looking for. The first round was with a DS director, who asked a…

Passed the Technical Loop, Now in Team Matching

I'm a third-year PhD student in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics, working in Finance, Public Finance, and IO. I applied to Amazon pretty late this year, and since I was extremely busy this semester, I took the last possible deadline at every stage. I finally got the email confirming I'd passed the final technical interview on April 10, and I'm now officially in the team-matching phase. I w…

What are interview experiences?

An interview experience is a candidate's own account of a hiring loop — not a question bank entry. It tells you the shape of the process: how many rounds there were, what each round actually tested, how long the gaps between them ran, and what the recruiter said at the end. That context is the part a question list cannot give you.

How to read them

Weight recent write-ups more heavily — interview loops change, often within a year. Read several for the same company and role rather than one: a single account tells you what one interviewer asked, while five tell you what the bar is. Note the outcome badge too, since a rejection write-up usually explains the gap far more precisely than an offer one.

Share your own

Every published experience earns 50 XP, and each of the first 3 likes it receives in a day earns you 10 XP more. Likes must come from established accounts; like-for-like swaps and likes from your own second account are not paid. Write it while the details are fresh — the round order, the exact prompts, and how much time you were given are what the next reader needs.
