Software Engineer Behavioral & Leadership Interview Questions

817 questions here come from the half of a Software Engineer loop where nobody writes code. Amazon reported the most at 70, then Google at 48, Meta at 38, Anthropic at 25 and DoorDash at 22. Amazon's share sets the tone, so Leadership Principles run through a lot of it: Ownership, Bias for Action, Customer Obsession, Disagree and Commit, each expecting a STAR story with your decision, the metric it moved, and what you would do differently now. Elsewhere the prompts range wider. Candidates were asked to describe a complex project and how they keep the work sustainable, to turn around something that looked unlikely to land, to explain how they handle ambiguity and conflict, and to talk about mentoring and code quality next to the automation they built. Two themes are newer. AI adoption now appears on its own, including what you did when AI-assisted coding fell short and how you got a team to adopt it. And a run of staff-level hiring-manager rounds ask about platform ownership and cross-team influence rather than personal delivery. 54 of these sit in an HR screen, a bigger share than any technical category sees, 448 are rated medium, and all 817 come with a written answer to compare against. 92% are readable without premium.
