Hello Interview Review 2026: Is Premium Worth It, and Who Should Pay?
Quick Overview
Hello Interview's free System Design in a Hurry course is its strongest part, and its one-time Premium ($47 a month, $95 a year or $319 lifetime when checked on October 14, 2026) mostly buys AI Guided Practice reps now that human mocks ended on May 31, 2026. It suits senior and staff system design candidates; anyone who needs to know what a company recently asked, or needs coding, SQL or ML practice, gets more from a question bank like PracHub, where most questions are free.
Hello Interview is worth paying for only if you want AI guided practice reps on top of its free system design course. When checked on October 14, 2026, Premium is a one-time $47 for a month, $95 for a year or $319 for lifetime. The free System Design in a Hurry course is the best part. Premium's question library is user-reported and its size is stated four different ways, so it is a weak guide to what your company asks; for that, start with PracHub's system design questions.

Quick Verdict: Is Hello Interview Worth It?
Choose Hello Interview Premium when you are a senior or staff candidate whose gap is system design or low-level design, you have already read the free course, and you want dozens of structured, AI-graded practice sessions before a loop at a company it writes level guides for.
Choose PracHub when you need to know what a specific company has asked recently, you are also preparing for coding, SQL, ML or behavioral rounds, and you want to start without paying: most questions are free.
Short answer: buy Premium for the Guided Practice or not at all, and if you buy, buy the year directly, because its own FAQ says the month-then-upgrade path costs more.
What Is Hello Interview?
Hello Interview sells self-serve prep to software engineers and managers, strongest in senior and staff system design. As of October 2026 its free written courses include System Design in a Hurry, DSA, ML system design and low-level design; a behavioral course appears both among the free tracks and on the Premium plan cards, so expect part of it to be locked. Premium adds premium breakdowns, videos, the concurrency course, AI "Guided Practice", a crowd-sourced question library and an AI tutor. Do not count a video and its article as two things you are buying: its FAQ says videos cannot be corrected once published and calls the articles the more complete and up-to-date version.
It also publishes level guides for Meta, Amazon, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Airbnb and Microsoft. The founders sign as Stefan and Evan, and the legal entity is Optick Labs Inc. in Seattle.
The question library is described as "actual questions from recent interviews, shared by other Hello Interview users". The site does not say whether reports are verified or moderated, and its public pages do not state per-company counts.
Human 1:1 mock interviews and mentorship ended on May 31, 2026. Practice is now AI-only.
Hello Interview Pricing in 2026
| Plan | Price (October 14, 2026) | List price | Length | Auto-renews |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Month Access | $47 | $59 | 1 month | No |
| 1 Year Access | $95 | $119 | 1 year, upgradeable to lifetime | No |
| Lifetime Access | $319 | $399 | Lifetime, "subject to the continued availability of the Premium service" (Terms 6.1) | No |
Each price is 20% off list through an auto-applied YEAREND26 code with no expiry shown. Sale prices move (a third-party directory recorded $78 a year and $275 lifetime on October 9, 2026), so check the Hello Interview pricing page the day you buy.
Free tier. The System Design in a Hurry course and the company guides are free. There is no free trial of Premium beyond one Guided Practice problem, offered as "Try Bitly", "Try Connect Four", "Try Battleship" or "Try a round".
Costs that are easy to miss:
- A month followed by an upgrade costs more than buying the year, because the upgrade credit is fixed.
- Premium fees are non-refundable; refunds are at the company's discretion and only for users who have not consumed the content.
- Lifetime access lasts only as long as the Premium service does.
- Sharing a login can end your account and Premium access without a refund.
What Hello Interview Does Well
The free course is real, not a teaser. System Design in a Hurry and the company guides are readable without paying. Some breakdowns carry a lock icon, and the site does not publish how many are free, but the framework itself is open.
Guided Practice is structured, not a chatbot. You diagram while you explain, the AI reads the drawing, and the prompts step through a system design loop. As of October 2026 the practice page lists 34 system design problems (about 35 minutes each), 8 low-level design problems, 12 AI-enabled coding problems (about 45 minutes each) and a behavioral track. In a Blind thread from April 1, 2025, several replies called Premium "100% worth it" and recommended the yearly plan, and one said Grokking has more breadth while Hello Interview suits staff-level depth (we compare the two in Hello Interview vs DesignGurus Grokking).
No subscription trap. Monthly and yearly access do not auto-renew, and the FAQ says your card will not be charged more than once.
Where Hello Interview Falls Short
The human mocks are gone. Older Blind complaints about the paid mocks, including a January 12 post (year not shown) about an interviewer who read from the Hello Interview article, are history; that product ended on May 31, 2026. For a person who pushes back on your design, see HelloInterview mock interviews are gone: the best alternatives in 2026.
The question library is a weak guide to what your company asks. Premium does include it, with pages linked for Meta, Amazon, Google, OpenAI and Anthropic. But it is user-reported, and its own pages disagree on the size: 5,000+ on the pricing page, 13,000+ on the homepage and practice page, 13,720 "total reports" on the database page and 5.3k on the premium page, as of October 14, 2026. Nothing explains the gap between reports and questions or how reports are checked.
The bar may be soft. In a Blind thread from October 14, 2025, a candidate found the per-level expectations on practice problems "pretty lenient", and a reply liked the interview structure but said "I would never couple everything via the same DB". If the stated bar is lenient, clearing a practice problem at your level proves less than it seems.
It is narrow. The Premium plan cards list system design, low-level design, concurrency and behavioral courses plus Guided Practice. No coding judge or SQL practice is listed.
Your answers go to other AI companies. Its terms say AI features send your interview responses to third-party platforms including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and AnyScale, and that opting out may affect functionality.
No outcomes data. A third-party bootcamp directory notes it publishes no job-placement or salary outcomes; the "offers from" logos are testimonials, not a rate.

Hello Interview answers "how do I run a system design interview?" PracHub answers "what did Meta, OpenAI or Anthropic ask recently?" As of October 2026 PracHub has more than 1,200 Meta questions, more than 850 Amazon, more than 600 Google, more than 350 OpenAI and more than 240 Anthropic questions, the same companies Hello Interview writes level guides for.
PracHub is not a course and does not grade a whiteboard. More than 7,000 questions have a written solution, and many of those solutions sit in the optional paid tier. Learn the framework from Hello Interview's free material, then rehearse on prompts your target company has used:
Asked at Meta: Design a Notification System That Delivers Events to Users at Scale Turn comment, reaction, friend-request and message events into push and in-app notifications for a large social platform, and decide whether email is worth adding.
Asked at OpenAI: Design a Real-Time Trivia Battle Royale Platform with Live Spectating Rooms of dozens to a hundred or more players answer round by round while wrong and slow players drop out, and spectators follow a live leaderboard; matchmaking and real-time fan-out carry the design.
Asked at Anthropic: Design a Parallel and Resumable Model Downloader Fetch a model artifact in parallel pieces, resume after interruptions, and hand the consumer a complete model.
Is Hello Interview Legit?
Yes. It is a real business with public prices, published terms and an FAQ, and the legal entity is Optick Labs Inc. in Seattle. Read the refund clause, the JAMS arbitration and class-action waiver (you can opt out) and the AI data-sharing clause first.
On "hellointerview reddit": no Reddit threads surfaced in our searches, so the sentiment here comes from Blind. With any reported-question library, never share details an employer or interviewer asked you to keep confidential.
Who Should Buy Hello Interview
Buy Premium if:
- Your gap is senior or staff system design or low-level design and you want a written-plus-video syllabus you can read free before paying.
- You want step-by-step AI whiteboard practice with per-step feedback, bought once instead of as a subscription.
- You are targeting Meta, Amazon, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Airbnb or Microsoft and want level-specific loop guides, such as Meta E5 or Amazon L6.
Skip it if you are junior and coding-heavy, preparing for data or SQL rounds, want a human mock interviewer, or mainly need to know what one company has asked recently. For those cases we compared the options in when PracHub is the smarter free alternative to Hello Interview.
A Smarter Way to Decide Before Paying
- Read System Design in a Hurry free. If the framework does not click, Premium will not fix that. If it clicks, name the gap left. A topic you cannot explain is a content gap: buy only if you can name the locked article that covers it. Following the explanations but stalling on a blank page is the gap Guided Practice is sold for. Not knowing whether your trade-offs hold up needs someone who pushes back, and Hello Interview's human mocks ended on May 31, 2026.
- Do the one free Guided Practice problem. It is the only trial you get, so treat it as the purchase test. Give it a design with one stated assumption, then judge the feedback by whether it names something you actually drew or said and gives you a fix you can test in a second attempt. Encouraging wording alone proves nothing.
- Open your target company on PracHub's company pages and read what it asked recently. If the prompts are mostly system design at your level, Hello Interview's practice matches; if they are coding, SQL or ML, it does not.
- Answer three to five of them cold, in writing, then compare against a written solution where one is open to you; some sit in the optional paid tier. Then change one requirement, for example clients that go offline and reconnect later, and redo the design without notes. If you can adapt it and say what still breaks, Premium is optional rather than urgent.
- If you still want Premium, buy the year or lifetime directly, never the month followed by an upgrade, and confirm the price on the day you check out.
Practice these on PracHub
Real questions in the territory Hello Interview teaches. The prompts are free to read; their written solutions sit in the optional paid tier, so draft your own answer first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hello Interview Premium worth it in 2026?
Yes for senior and staff candidates whose weak spot is system design or low-level design and who will use the AI Guided Practice. As of October 14, 2026 it costs $47 for a month, $95 for a year or $319 for lifetime, all one-time. For coding, SQL or ML rounds, the free course plus a question bank covers more.
Is Hello Interview legit?
Yes. It publishes its prices, terms and FAQ, and the legal entity behind it is Optick Labs Inc. in Seattle. Before paying, know that Premium fees are non-refundable except at the company's discretion, the terms include binding arbitration with a class-action waiver unless you opt out, and shared accounts can be terminated without a refund.
Is Hello Interview free?
Partly. The System Design in a Hurry course and the company guides are readable without paying. Premium has no free trial; the only free taste of Guided Practice is one problem, offered as Bitly, Connect Four, Battleship or a sample round.
Does Hello Interview still offer mock interviews with humans?
No. Human 1:1 mock interviews and mentorship ended on May 31, 2026, and the refund window for unused mock credits has closed. Practice on the site is now AI-only.
Can I get a refund on Hello Interview Premium?
Rarely. Its terms say Premium fees are non-refundable and refunds are at the company's sole discretion. The FAQ says it considers refunds case by case only for users who have not consumed the content, so treat the free material as your trial.
What is the best free alternative to Hello Interview?
For learning system design, Hello Interview's own free course is hard to beat. For knowing what companies ask, PracHub is a bank of real, recently asked interview questions with in-depth written solutions; most questions are free, including more than 1,500 system design questions as of October 2026.
Final Verdict
Read Hello Interview's free course whether or not you pay. Premium, as of October 2026, is a one-time fee for AI Guided Practice, premium breakdowns and a user-reported library whose size its own pages cannot agree on. With human mocks gone, you pay for structured reps.
That is a fair deal for a staff candidate with a system design gap. It is a poor one for anyone who needs coding, SQL or ML practice, or who wants to know what their company asked recently. For that, start with PracHub's system design questions.
