StubHub Interview Questions
Half of StubHub's 10 reported questions are system design, and nearly all of those live in one domain: sending and ranking content about live events. Candidates describe designing an event email system and, separately, a marketing email system, where the real arguments are fan-out on write against fan-out on read, idempotency so nobody receives the same reminder twice, and what you do when an event sells out or reschedules after a send is already queued. A notification engine and two recommendation questions extend the same theme, one of them explicitly about composing recommendations from smaller ranking pieces rather than serving a single model. Every question came from a Software Engineer interview, 5 of them onsite, and 7 of the 10 are rated medium. Not one question here opens in a coding console, which fits the mix: there is very little pure algorithm work in a StubHub loop. What you get instead is six written solutions that argue the design out, on a page that is three-quarters free.
