Box Software Engineer interview with delayed final rounds and rejection

My experience started with a lot of momentum and then collapsed into confusion. After I applied, I completed three one-hour interviews covering coding, data structures, and system design. The recruiter's feedback was very positive, and I was described as the top candidate. I was asked to wait while the team looked for the right fit across several teams.

That's when things became unclear. After I was told that positions had shifted and closed, I was told I would be contacted about future openings. Months passed without any outreach. Eventually, I reached out myself and was scheduled for final rounds covering cultural fit, a retrospective conversation, and a discussion with a hiring manager. Two weeks later, I received an automated rejection email with no real explanation.

A separate outreach gave me a similar sense of effort going nowhere. They contacted me even though I hadn't applied, then ran algorithms, including a priority queue problem where I was allowed to use the internet, along with behavioral, design, and live coding algorithm segments. The feedback during the interviews sounded good, yet the final decision was that I lacked experience. The whole process felt disconnected from the reasoning behind that decision.

Across both experiences, the closing logic was hard to understand. I received positive signals during the process, followed by outcomes that didn't provide enough clarity to reconcile what had happened.

Location: Warsaw, Masovia. Overall feedback: Negative. Offer status: No offer.
