My process had three rounds, with more short fundamentals questions than I expected. I was unsure whether that was typical of the company or specific to the team.
The first manager interview covered my interest in the role and relevant background, then singleton design, thread safety in Java, and SQL UNION versus UNION ALL. The coding round asked for per-client rate limiting and a system that decided whether a feature flag was enabled for a user.
The final manager conversation returned to behavioral questions and fundamentals. Topics included handling a senior engineer's rejection of my proposal, my strongest technical area, and React or AngularJS experience. I was also asked how I would design an API for hundreds of external users, without a specific business function. I found it unclear what that final round was intended to assess.
