DoorDash Full Stack Engineer Interview Experience — A Secondhand Account of AI Coding Rounds

I am retelling another person's interview account; I did not attend these interviews. It concerned an E4 full-stack role and an engineer planning to move from the West Coast to New York.

The phone screen involved a React product list and shopping cart. The engineer changed from class components to hooks at the interviewer's request and discussed handling thousands of products. A manager conversation followed.

Four final rounds covered driver onboarding, engineering values and AI, user-management CRUD, and an event-stream interface with chat. The onboarding design emphasized a state machine; the engineer felt system design was a weaker area and needed time to understand the task.

The CRUD round prohibited AI. Basic operations worked, but search and pagination remained unfinished. In the AI-enabled round, the engineer wrote a specification, generated code with an assistant, and reviewed it manually. The interface and REST/SSE work were completed; chat remained a skeleton. The interviewer emphasized SSE and the AI-assisted process over finishing chat.
