Optiver Interview Questions
Optiver's 90 questions come almost entirely from two stages: the technical screen supplies 44 and the online assessment 37, with a few onsite and HR screen reports behind them. Software Engineer covers 59 of them and Data Scientist 26. Coding & Algorithms is the largest category at 39, ahead of Statistics & Math at 21, then a smaller band of Software Engineering Fundamentals, Machine Learning, System Design and behavioral prompts. Difficulty skews medium, 52 against 26 hard and 7 easy, and the hard tail sits mostly in the probability material. Discrete probability recurs: the chance two dice sum to seven, the chance the three smallest dice sum to three, the colour left after part of a deck is discarded, and the expected value of a bankroll game played with an unfair coin. The algorithm problems carry a trading accent: counting bounded buy-and-sell sequences, detecting currency arbitrage once a fee is charged per cycle, counting ordered sequences that hit a target sum. The Software Engineering Fundamentals entries are object-design exercises, not puzzles: a tiered expiring item store, a news subscription processing engine, an event-driven overheat controller. The set is current, with 6 added in the last 90 days, no AI-assisted rounds in these reports, and 14 first-hand Optiver interview experiences covering quant trader, quantitative researcher and software engineering loops.
