Rejected After Two Technical Rounds, But the Nicest Interview Yet

Apple Maps – Metrics Engineering team I'd never heard of this role before either. I looked into it a lot, and it feels kind of like a Data Engineer (Analytics-leaning) role — designing data pipelines for various Apple Maps features and building metrics to measure the app's performance. A recruiter reached out to me, and I went into the interview just to give it a try. I ended up failing, but this…

SQL Round Ran Out of Time, Then a Bike Case Study

This was the first interview of this hiring round for me, and I wasn't prepared — I underestimated how much time management the SQL portion would take, and I didn't finish it before time was cut off. The SQL question was a real, previously-reported one. It asked for: Users who spent more than $100 in a month The same as above but excluding the person with the highest spend each month Month-over-m…

Full Loop, No Offer After System Design Ran Long

My Warner Bros. Discovery interview process, which dragged on for over a month, is finally over. CNN division - JS Senior Full Stack HR screening - they got to know my background, my reasons for job searching, and touched on a few technical-related questions. Technical Screening - live coding, with two Senior developers on the other side. Very simple: given an array and an integer k, shift left b…

Two Back-to-Back Phone Screens, Rejected for Pipeline Fit

A recruiter reached out. I looked up the company online and felt the culture seemed okay, so I went ahead and interviewed. The recruiter call was just casual chatting, and we quickly landed on an interview time. I hadn't grinded LeetCode in a long time so I was a little worried, so I scheduled the phone screen slot for two weeks out and started grinding through interview experience posts. In the…

A Random Grab-Bag of Math and Estimation Questions

Overall it wasn't too hard, and the interviewer was very friendly. The interviewer had a slide deck, and the questions were picked from it at random. A 15x20 foot floor — if you tile it with tiles that are 1 square yard each, how many tiles do you need? An account has $1,000 in it, doubling every year. How much money is there after 20 years? Sitting by a window looking at the moon, estimate your…

Resume Grilling Turns Into a Surprise 30-Minute Hotel Booking System Design

It started with a self-introduction, then 20 minutes of the interviewer grilling my resume — almost no rote trivia questions, mostly project-related questions, and the interviewer asked at a very high level. Then, very abruptly, I was told I had to spend the remaining thirty minutes finishing a system design question, any diagramming tool I wanted, and I had to share my screen. The functional req…

Python, SQL, and Rejection at the Hiring Manager Round

I applied online among lots of other applications, and HR reached out afterward. The overall process was HR screen → technical → HM. I failed at the HM round and didn't make it to the onsite. The HR phone screen was fairly standard, mainly asking: Self-introduction. Why are you leaving? Why Roblox? What are you looking for in your next role? The technical interview lasted an hour and mainly cover…

Three-Day Onsite Full of Behavioral Questions, Then Ghosted

I got contacted by HR on LinkedIn — the team is based in Austin. The phone screen was with the hiring manager. Two questions, neither of which needed to actually run — you just had to talk through your approach. Not straight off LeetCode, but roughly LeetCode easy level. I interviewed after only a few days of grinding problems, and I still passed, so don't stress about it too much. The onsite was…

Five SQL Questions and a Rehashed User ID Puzzle

I haven't seen an interview post about this company, so let me be the first. There were 5 SQL questions, and the interviewer was a DS. The questions themselves weren't that hard, but a lot of the open discussion was pretty tricky. Two tables: users with user_id, signup_date, and login with user_id, browser, date. A few of the questions stuck with me: Calculate login DAU, and if there are days wit…

Lead Scoring Case Twice, Offer in Two Weeks

After I submitted my application, the OA went out automatically — one Python question and one SQL question, nothing too hard. First round (mainly asked about my resume, a deep dive into the ML project on my resume, and a case): What's your experience of building a statistical model and machine learning model? What kinds of variables/features did you use? Did the client only care about the results…

Two OAs and a 90-Minute Database Design Coding Test

There were two OAs total. One was a personality test and an aptitude test. The personality test had over a hundred questions, and some of them repeat — be careful not to contradict yourself between them. The aptitude test was very tight on time: figure relations, quantitative relations, vocabulary fill-in-the-blank, that kind of thing. It's hard to finish in time, so just guess when you have to.…

What are interview experiences?

An interview experience is a candidate's own account of a hiring loop — not a question bank entry. It tells you the shape of the process: how many rounds there were, what each round actually tested, how long the gaps between them ran, and what the recruiter said at the end. That context is the part a question list cannot give you.

How to read them

Weight recent write-ups more heavily — interview loops change, often within a year. Read several for the same company and role rather than one: a single account tells you what one interviewer asked, while five tell you what the bar is. Note the outcome badge too, since a rejection write-up usually explains the gap far more precisely than an offer one.

Share your own

Every published experience earns 50 XP, and each of the first 3 likes it receives in a day earns you 10 XP more. Likes must come from established accounts; like-for-like swaps and likes from your own second account are not paid. Write it while the details are fresh — the round order, the exact prompts, and how much time you were given are what the next reader needs.
