ServiceTitan Software Engineer interview with async/await and system design

My process started with a recruiter screen and then moved into three technical rounds. In the first two, I spent long sessions pair programming. I implemented a custom data structure from an interface, then worked on parallel processing with async/await. The difficulty felt medium or easier, and the interviewers were fair and clear, so I could collaborate and ask questions as I went.

The third round was supposed to be more formal and included a system design discussion. The agenda had been outlined in advance, and I expected two interviewers to be present. Once the session started, one of them went missing. Their camera and microphone simply turned off. The other interviewer continued the discussion and kept moving the design forward.

I tried to stay on track, but the setup felt awkward and disorganized. It threw me off compared with the structured, two-way conversation I’d expected.

I finished the system design portion without getting much of a chance to do the behavioral segment they’d mentioned, then waited for feedback. I eventually heard that they’d gone in another direction for the role. My reflection was that the technical content was only part of the process. The interpersonal flow and structure mattered too, and they didn’t match what had been promised.

Location: Vancouver, BC. Overall feedback: Neutral. Offer status: No offer.
